Guitarist called it a stunningly good reverb pedal that sounds like one twice the price. Owners on Thomann had a different line item: the software.

The Suede Read

Guitarist contributor Daryl Robertson gave the Hotone NC-200 Verbera five stars on MusicRadar. His verdict: a stunningly good unit that sounds and operates like one twice the price. The cons line was short, the MIDI ports sit in a weird spot, and the spring reverb setting could be better. For a $299 dual-engine convolution pedal going up against Strymon and Universal Audio, that is about as clean a pass as the gear press hands out.

Owners on Thomann are less interested in the spring setting. One reviewer opens by saying the price is a joke, genuinely too expensive for what it offers. Another writes a full paragraph about the companion Neon Collector app crashing mid-connection over USB, a support ticket that got no confirmation email, and no reply from Hotone at all. That reviewer's own words: great sound, but no support, so a bad rating anyway.

Neither reviewer disputes the sound. The review's central claim, that the reverbs themselves are excellent, survives contact with buyers. What does not survive cleanly is the idea that this is a plug-and-play unit at that price. The Neon Collector software is the tax you pay to unlock the pedal's firmware updates, and for at least one owner, that tax bounced hard.

Score it split. Great pedal, unreviewed software.
