Take 01

"This rig is a classic case of chasing nostalgia while missing some crucial touchstones. The Ibanez TS-9 may have been the go-to overdrive in the ’80s, but it feels a bit pedestrian next to the KTR Klon, which is a beautiful homage to the original Klon Centaur from '90, albeit with less character. Pairing them with a Roland JC-120, known for its pristine clean tones, almost begs the question of why you’d want to muddy those waters with two overdrives instead of exploring a wider palette like the Boss DS-1 or even a vintage MXR Distortion+. Still, the Strymon BlueSky is a fantastic way to end the chain, and it can add some real depth—just don’t forget to let it breathe."

Take 02

"Look — I'm not gonna say it's wrong to have two overdrives stacked like that, but you're really piling on the gain before hitting the Strymon BlueSky. The Roland JC-120 loves a bit of headroom, so why not try placing the reverb before the overdrives? That way, you can get a clearer, more spacious sound without drowning it in distortion."

Take 03

"Ah, the Fender Stratocaster—great guitar, but pairing it with a Roland JC-120? Might as well slap a silk scarf on a bulldozer. And two overdrives? What on Earth are you trying to achieve, a sonic pie chart? Back in my day, we’d crank a simple Tube Screamer into a hot Marshall, and if we wanted reverb, we’d just crank the amp and call it a day, not spend our retirement savings on a fancy Strymon."
